Opening the door for more Opportunities

Years ago, a child from the same village died while going to school crossing the river. Since then, they don't send their children in rainy season.

Guara is an isolated settlement from the nearest bazaar. The villagers have to walk around 2 and ½ hrs daily to the bazaar for various purposes. In the rainy season, it is the most difficult days for the villagers since they have to cross the river, Soia Khola which is often flooded. Further, the children from the village have to cross the river while going to school which is near the bazaar. Years ago, a child from the same village died while going to school crossing the river. Since then, they don't send their children in rainy season.
The villagers were so excited when one of the social mobilizer from Kalika Swabalamban came to the settlement and share the information about PAF and nature of the programmes it supports. They organized to form a community organization, Sita Samuha to implement various activities for their improved livelihood. There are 41 HHs in total among which 33 HHs are Dalit, 2 HHs are Janajati and 6 HHs are others. The first priority was to construct a road to the bazaar and culvert over the river. The proposal submitted by their organization was approved by PAF and released the fund for the implementation of the activities.
They started to work on the road construction and culvert. When they actually started their work and completed a section of the road, the well off villagers who were not supporting then initially, came to them and told them they are ready to assist them though they can not me members of the community organization. Similarly, the villagers from another village came to contribute in kind to construct the road though the proposed road does not reach to their village.
The total budget for constructing 5 KM long rural road is Rs. 23,84,681.80 among which the community contribution in kind is equivalent to Rs. 856851.50 (35.9%). The constructed a very good culvert in Soia Khola which joins more than three villages namely, Mahadev, Madhan Nagar and Bhusadhi. It is almost completed in low cost and it will be in use in two months time. When the culvert is completed they will be able to send their children in rainy season also.
